Symptoms and Effects
What to Look Out For
Gum disease impacts your overall health, not just your oral health.
Not sure if you may have gum disease? Some common symptoms of gum disease include:
Bleeding Gums – If you notice that your gums are bleeding when you brush or floss, this could be an indication of gum disease.
Persistent Bad Breath – Bad breath (also known as halitosis) is a common sign of gum disease. If left untreated, it can cause bacteria to grow in the mouth and contribute to gum inflammation and decay.
Receding gums – Receding gums are another symptom of gum disease. When the gum tissue recedes away from the tooth surface, exposing more tooth surface area, you have an increased risk for cavities and loss of teeth.
Treatment Options
Fighting Gum Disease — Together
The first step in preventing gum disease is through regular professional cleanings and exams at our office in SW Portland.
During these visits, we will examine your teeth for signs of early gum disease or other issues like cavities or cracks in your teeth that may be causing pain or discomfort. We’ll also check for any signs that you may be susceptible to developing gum disease such as receding gums or bleeding while brushing your teeth (these can often be caused by poor oral hygiene).
If you do have gum disease, we have multiple treatment options to bring your oral health back to standard. Contact us to learn more.
