Restorative Dental Care

At Burlingame Dental Arts, our dentists in SW Portland provide compassionate, comprehensive restorative dental care services to “restore” the function, integrity, and morphology of missing tooth structure resulting from tooth decay (dental caries) or external trauma. The goal of restorative dental care is to bring back your natural smile and prevent future oral health issues.

Our highly trained staff work hard to ensure your comfort while providing the best in restorative dental care services and treatment. Our restorative dental care services include:

Crowns (or a tooth-shaped “cap”) is placed over a tooth to restore its shape, size, strength, and appearance to hold a bridge in place or cover a dental implant. They are cemented into place to fully encase the entire portion of a tooth that lies at and above the gum line.

They are commonly used to protect a weak tooth, restore a broken tooth, to cover and support a tooth with a large filling, to hold a dental bridge in place, to cover misshapen or severely discolored teeth, to cover a dental implant, or to make a cosmetic modification.

Dental Bonding

Tooth bonding is most useful for repairing chipped teeth. Bonding is a process where the dentist attaches or “bonds” materials directly to your tooth to change the color and shape. The natural tooth enamel is then fused together with bonding materials such as porcelain and resins to create a strong structure that feels like your original tooth.

Dental Bridges

Bridges are false teeth that are designed to “bridge” the gap created by one or more missing teeth.  Bridges can be anchored on either side by crowns and cemented permanently into place.

Dental Implants

Dental implants are a conservative and long-term option for replacing missing teeth. Implants are actually a small post made of metal that is placed into the bone socket where teeth are missing. The implant is covered with a replacement tooth called a crown.

Current technology has created software that allows for computer-guided placement of implants, which ensures a precise fit and improved success rate. The implant surgery and crown placement are done at Burlingame Dental Arts so you don’t have to go to multiple places to get your treatment completed. The 3-D computer imaging and CEREC technology allow full control of all aspects of the process, from the surgery to the final crown placed on the implant.

Fillings are the most common type of dental restoration used to treat cavities or to repair damage to teeth caused by teeth grinding. Teeth can be filled with gold, silver amalgam, or tooth-colored plastic materials called composite resin fillings.

Partial and Full Dentures

Dentures are a removable replacement for missing teeth and surrounding tissues.  They are made of acrylic resin sometimes combined with metal attachments. Complete dentures replace all the teeth; partial dentures are considered when some natural teeth remain and are retained by metal clasps attached to the natural teeth.

Periodontal Care

Periodontal disease is a chronic bacterial infection of the gums and underlying jaw bone and ranks as the leading cause of adult tooth loss in the U.S. Fortunately, our family dentists in SW Portland can help control the progression of periodontal disease, enabling patients to save their teeth and restore their smiles back to health.

Periodontal scaling and root planing is the most common form of periodontal disease treatment. This procedure allows our dentists to clean a patient’s teeth and gums, all the way down to the very roots. This type of treatment is the most successful for dealing with early-stage periodontal disease. More severe forms of the disease, however, could require a more complicated procedure – such as pocket reduction and gum grafts – to correct.

Sleep Apnea Appliances

Sleep Apnea appliances, also known as Oral Appliance Therapies, are an effective treatment option for many patients with snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). A custom-fit oral sleep appliance can improve your sleep, restore your alertness and revitalize your health. Worn only during sleep, an oral appliance fits like a sports mouthguard or an orthodontic retainer. It supports the jaw in a forward position to help maintain an open upper airway. Research shows that oral appliance therapy is an effective treatment option for snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. If you and your doctor decide that oral appliance therapy is the best treatment option for you, then your doctor will write a prescription for you to receive a custom-made oral appliance. Burlingame Dental Arts can provide you with a sleep apnea appliance and will recommend the oral appliance that is best for you. Oral Appliance Therapy is covered by many medical insurance plans.
